Restoration of monuments gains momentum

Hyderabad: The City municipal body is taking up restoration and repair works at various historical monuments on the sidelines of Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP) for quite some time.

The conservation works were going on at Char Kaman near Charminar with priority and some of the works are already over. Similarly, restoration works were recently started at Chudi Bazar, Murgi Chowk, Clock Tower (Mahaboob Chowk), Zulfikhar Kaman and Moazzam Jahi Market.

MAUD principal secretary Arvind Kumar has recently taken an innovative step and adopted MJ Market and sought suggestions from people besides asking them to join in the cause. It invoked a lot of good response from people. The Pedestrian project was started in the year 2006 but has been delayed for at least a decade and no concrete work was done. However, the authorities are now working on this project on war-foot and first phase is nearing completion.

The works pertaining to removal of encroachments from Madina to Pathergatti are almost in final stage. Besides this, sign boards of the shops were also removed in order to bring in uniform sign boards on the Madina-Charminar stretch.

The clock tower at Mahaboob Chowk is being restored at a cost of Rs 60 lakh. GHMC officials are keenly inspecting the restoration works at the tower and works are expected to be completed by May end. On the other hand, Rs 10 crore has been allotted for the restoration and repair at Mozam Jahi Market by the government.
