Charminar: Residents of Kala Pathar and Mecca Colony approached State Human Rights Commission with a representation requesting to instruct the GHMC and police authorities to recover the body of a person who was washed away in the storm water canal (nala) in the area.

The mentioned incident occurred on May 17 when city witnessed heavy rain. The complaint stated that the Kala Pather police and GHMC staff failed to trace the unknown person despite a complaint was registered.

The complaint to SHRC stated that the said nala has been a severe threat for the locals for the past 10 years and localities were flooded with water when it rains. Most affected areas are Mecca Colony and Basharat Nagar, it said.

It was also stated that several vehicles and other necessary things have been washed away in the storm water canal in the past during rains. An unknown person drowned in the nala a few days ago when city witnessed heavy rains and was washed away even as the locals tried to save him.

Locals have submitted CCTV footage to the police and GHMC officials requesting them to trace the body but in vain. The complainants alleged that authorities concerned were non-responsive when they were informed about the incident.
