Studio Amoli is organising a ‘Gond Painting Workshop’ on May 26 at Phoenix Arena from 10am. The Gonds are among the largest tribes in Central India, predominantly centered in Madhva Pradesh. Their recorded history goes back to 1400 years, but many of their customs echo an antecedent of Mesolithic forebearers.

One of the customs being decorating the walls of their houses, which today has given rise to a unique style of art called the Gond Painting. A mystical art form put together by lines and dots, Gond Painting has come a long way, from being drawn on caves to finding expression on modern canvases.

Artist Sambhav Kumar, is scion of the Gond Tribe of Madhya Pradesh. A native of Bhopal, the art form has been passed on to him as a family heirloom. Now, in his early thirties, he has been learning and delivering this art form across Northern India for 20 years now. He has been specially invited to Hyderabad for the city to learn and enrich in this beautiful art form.
