Hyderabad: As a way to improve sanitation and encourage citizens, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to give cash awards and gifts to conscientious Swachh auto tipper drivers and household women every month.

As part of the programme, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Wednesday awarded Rs 10,000 cash prize to Swachh auto driver and a saree to a homemaker in Rajendernagar circle.

The GHMC Commissioner handed over Rs 10,000 to R Ravi and a saree to Naseema from Vambay Colony in Rajendernagar circle for segregating dry and wet garbage.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that corporation had been collecting around 5,000 metric tonnes of waste on a daily basis and a lot of efforts were being made for 100 per cent segregation.

The corporation had taken several initiatives to ensure effective implementation of the policy of segregating dry and wet waste by involving educational institutions, NSS volunteers and others.

He said that the corporation was planning to create awareness among volunteers and students as well as residential welfare associations about the benefits and use of dry and waste.

The corporation would seek the help of around 4,000 community resource persons to visit every household and educate them about the segregation, he said.
