The temblor occurred around 2.20 p.m., and on the Japanese seismic scale that peaks at 7, the quake measured 5 minus in Amami prefecture and 4 in Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

On Monday, another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 rocked the coast of the Urakawa, Hokkaido prefectures several minutes earlier at 2.13 p.m., Xinhua news agency reported.

The weather agency has not issued a tsunami warning or advisory, and no damage had been reported yet.
