World Bank officials take feedback on water committees

Interact with farmers of Nagarjunasagar ayacut

Miryalaguda: World Bank official Srinivas felt that the better coordination between the farmers and officials would yield good results, like increase in crop production.

On Tuesday, he along with team members of the World Bank has participated in an interactive meeting with ayacut farmers, organised by Agriculture Technology Management Association (ATMA) at Miryalaguda, after inspecting the crust gates and dam of Nagarjanasagar Project and moderenisation works of left Canal of the project from Chalakurthi to 18th milestone.

Later, he has also conducted an interactive session for World Bank delegates with the farmers of Nagarjunasagar ayacut in Agro-Farms Building at Bangarugadda in Miryalaguda town.

Farmers from Nagarjunasagar, Miryalaguda and Nereducharla took part in the interactive session. Addressing the farmers, Srinivas suggested the farmers to take up cultivation of crops which were suggested by the agriculture and irrigation officials in the ayacut area.

The World Bank team members took feedback from the farmers whether initiative of water committee was good or bad decision.

Majority of the farmers expressed their view opposing water committees saying that political involvement was more in the committees. But, few farmers supported them feeling they would help the tail end farmers and resolve quarrels between farmers during water-sharing to fields.

Farmers felt that filling up of tanks through feeder channels under ayacut area would provide better irrigation facility to them.

The farmers of tail end area in the ayacut also deplored that they were not getting water for cultivation due to incompletion of modernisation of NSP Left Canal.
