Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao urges Khammam denizens to segregate waste and maintain clean environs
Khammam: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao directed the Municipal workers here on Monday to discharge their duties efficiently with commitment for ‘Clean and Green Khammam’.
The Minister attended as a chief guest to the programme of distribution of dry and wet dustbins, organised by the Municipal Corporation of Khammam, under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner B Srinivas, here at Pavilion Grounds in Khammam on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the R&B Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao sanctioned crores of rupees for various developmental activities in the city. “Safe drinking water will be supplied to the people living in the city by constructing water project at Lakaram Lake at a cost of Rs 70 crore,” informed the Minister.
He further added, “The construction works of water grid under Mission Bhagiratha at Palair are underway and will be completed by Ugadi for supplying of sufficient quantities of water.”
“By constructing toilets in every household, one should protect the self respect of women and must prevent open defecation,” advised the R&B Minister. MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said, “People must participate in the developmental activities irrespective of political parties they belong to.”
He advised not to misuse the funds sanctioned for the developmental activities and create awareness among people about cleanliness and for achieving ‘Clean and Green Khammam’ status.
MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar said, “About 2 lakh of dry and wet dustbins are distributed for free to every household present in all the 50 divisions at a cost of Rs 1.40 crore.” “By keeping surroundings clean and by segregating the degradable and plastic waste, we can get rid of mosquitoes and house flies and can protect ourselves from being infected with diseases,” he advised.
MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepalli Kavitha, DCCB Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu, City Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr Papa Lal and Deputy Mayor Battula Murali were present along with corporators and others.
