Khammam: District general secretary of Building Construction Workers Association M Srinivas Rao demanded the government pay Rs 3,000 as pension to building workers who crossed the age of 60, here in Khammam on Friday.

He said there were several issues which were still left pending with the Building Construction Workers Welfare Board, which had been established after 23 years of severe movement led by the building workers.

“The building workers are unable to utilise the scheme intended for them due to restrictions like age limit of 60 years etc.

Without proper Addas, drinking water facilities and toilets, the building workers standing till12.00pm on the roadside with their lunch boxes are facing severe problems without any work. Moreover, the police are exerting pressure on them to vacate the place,” he alleged.

“The officials are trying to divert funds of Welfare board without giving scholarships to the children of building workers,” he pointed.

He urged all the building workers present in the district to participate in large numbers in the dharna which would be staged on February 6, in front of the Collectorate.
