Khammam: District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar ordered the officials concerned to take stringent actions against the persons involved in illegal transport of Public Distribution System (PDS) Rice.

Speaking at a review meeting along with District Superintendent of Police Shanawaz Qasim on prevention of Gudumba, Gutka and illegal transport of rice in Khammam on Friday, the Collector ordered the officials to take serious steps for prevention of illegal transport of PDS rice apart from slapping cases against the culprits.

“By conducting raids and carrying out thorough inspection in the villages and cold storages, officials must prevent production and selling of Gudumba in the villages apart from motivating the youth to not to get addicted to Gutka,” ordered the Collector.

He suggested the police officials to appoint She Teams in the rural areas to prevent harassment of women. District Superintendent of Police Shahnawaz Qasim said stringent action would be taken against persons responsible for spoiling the health of others by selling Gudumba and Gutka in the district.

He ordered the officials to give regular counseling to the bind over persons to keep check on them and prevent them from illegal production and selling of Gudumba.

District Joint Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sai Krishna, District Forest Officer Dr Sunil S Hirimarth, Project Director of DRDA Muralidhar Rao, Deputy Commissioner of Excise department Mahesh Babu, Kalluru RDO Kumudini Singh, DSP K Suresh Kumar, Tahsildars and Mandal Officers attended the meeting.
