Doctors conduct cornea transplant for first time in Khammam
Cornea transplantation was carried out for the first time in Khammam by the doctors of Gautami Netralayam here on Monday.

The transplantation was successfully carried out by Dr Lavanya under the guidance of Dr Madhavi. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Madhavi said cornea was the transparent tissue in front of the eye and a person could lose vision if the tissue becomes opaque due to injury or in disease conditions like arthritis and leprosy.
Of all the organ transplants, cornea transplantation was unique since the other parts of the eye could not be transplanted. Cornea transplantations are done in cities like Hyderabad and Vijayawada only. This was the first time in Khammam, she informed. The hospital management and staff congratulated Dr Lavanya for successfully carrying out the transplantation.
