On World Water Day, Officials call for judicious use of water

Speaking at the ‘Jala Jatara Programme’ organised at Lakaram Lake on the occasion of World Water Day in Khammam on Wednesday, he said water must used judiciously keeping in mind the future needs, especially ahead of peak summer that is soon to kick in. On the occasion, he administered a pledge to the people on conservation of water and protection of water bodies.
City Mayor Dr Papa Lal said people must follow some simple techniques to conserve water and make sure that they don’t waste water and close the taps once there work was done. Suggesting digging of soak pits in every house, Papa Lal said it was the duty of every citizen to make sure that water bodies doesn’t get polluted and asked them to stay away from dumping waste into water sources.
Rural Development Officer Purna Chander Rao, Executive Engineer Sudhakar, Irrigation department Executive Engineer Narashimha Rao, Khammam Urban Tahsildar Sri Latha and Corporator Chava Narayana Rao were also present along with others.
In Bhongir, District Collector Anita Ramachandran stated that every drop of water must be conserved for the needs of future generation.
On the occasion of World Water Day on Wednesday, the Collector along with MLC Krishna Reddy administered pledge of water conservation to the officials and others who took part in the programme held near Pedda Chervu of Bhongir. Speaking on the occasion, she said water resources were declining day by day due to increased pollution and change in climatic conditions.
The Collector advised people of the district to dig soak pits on the premises of their houses and farm ponds in agriculture lands to recharge the ground water table.
She listed out Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya programmes to ensure safe drinking water to every household in the state and to revive water bodies to provide irrigation facility to farmers.
Meanwhile in Nalgonda district, Collector Gaurav Uppal along with UNICEF representative administered water conservation pledge to the youth at Marriguda bypass road, followed by 5k run upto NG College.
Speaking on the occasion, Uppal emphasised the need of creating awarness among people about conservation and judicious use of water and also the need of planting more saplings for restoration of ecological balance and to get sufficient rains in the season.
