On Thursday, Centre for Good Governance Manager Eskovee and Project Associate Sridhar Reddy toured the Suryapet district. They met the Collector at his chamber. During their meeting, the Collector explained about the Green Day and other programmes planned to develop greenery in the district under Haritha Haram programme.

He informed that with the support of people and public representatives, official machinery made Haritha Haram a great success in Surypet district.

Stating that to protect the planted saplings under Haritha Haram, the district administration was conducting Green Day on every Friday, he said it became a role model to other districts. To increase the forest cover from 3.5 per cent to recomended 33 per cent in the district for good rains and ecological balance, everyone is striving hard voluntarily, he added.

Informing that in 2016 as many as 15 lakh saplings were planted in the district during second phase of Haritha Haram, he exuded confidence to reach the district target of 1.3 crore saplings in the present year-2017.

He further informed that Green Brigades were constituted in educational institutes, nine cement industries decided to plant 1 lakh saplings on the premises of each industry and 13 acres were alloted to Haritha Haram in Pulichinthala inundating villages area.

Centre for Good Governance team toured Gandhinagar and Teakmatla mandal and planted saplings. They expressed their pleasure over the steps taken by district administration to make Haritha haram a grand success.
