Khammam: The distribution of Bathukamma sarees across the State is the cheap trick played by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to gain political mileage and to attract women voters, alleged district president of Mahila Congress Committee Bandi Manee here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting held with the representatives of Mahila Congress Committee here at Sanjeeva Reddy Bhavan in Khammam on Tuesday, Manee said it was a good decision by the KCR to distribute sarees on the occasion of Bathukamma festival to uplift the handloom industry, but why the government had imported sarees from Surat? she questioned. “Distributing cheap quality sarees which cannot be used is an insult to the women,” she alleged.

The Minister of Textile Industry K T Rama Rao said the government had invested Rs 1,240 crore for distribution of sarees and bought half of them from Surat. Then, how can the government claim that it extended a helping hand to handloom industry?

“The Chief Minister and his son are trying to deceive people with their mesmerising words and are playing cheap politics to attract voters. But, people are observing every move of the TRS party and are ready teach a fitting lesson in future,” she warned.
