Khammam: Congress leader Muttineni Veeraiah has criticised the TRS government for not fulfilling its promises made for the uplift of the differently-abled persons. Addressing a meeting presided over by the District Congress Committee president Aitham Satyam here on Tuesday, he said although the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – 2016 came into force in April this year, the State government has not come forward to implement its provisions.

He criticised the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for merging physically-challenged unit with the child and women development, this despite the Parliamentary Committee’s recommendation to have separate department for the disabled. Moreover, the government was turning a blind eye to the welfare of physically-challenged by not filling the backlog posts, he added.

He threatened to launch a movement if the government failed to initiate action for the welfare of 20 lakh-odd physically-challenged persons in the State before November 30. Senior leaders Md Tajuddin, Isaac, Latif, Sathish, Guruvaiah and Ramlal among others present.
