Mahbubnagar: The district administration is planning introduction of English as medium of instruction in all Anganwadi centres situated in urban areas of the district soon. As part of this, District Collector Ronald Rose launched a 20-day training programme for Anganwadi teachers at the District Institute for Teachers’ Education (DITE) in Mettuguda on Monday.
While inaugurating the training programme, the Collector said, “As the strength in the urban Anganwadi centres is declining day by day, we are planning to introduce English as medium of instruction in Anganwadi centres located in urban areas, where the teachers would prepare the kids for elementary English medium education.”
According to the Collector, the parents in urban areas were not sending their children to the Anganwadi centres as most of them has Telugu as medium of instruction. However, with the introduction of English medium, he hoped to see increase in the number of enrolments in urban Anganwadis.
As part of the training programme, around 125 Anganwadi teachers would be trained to teach the children in English. The Collector said there would not be much change in the syllabi, but the teachers would be trained to teach English alphabet and rhymes.
