Doctors oppose National Medical Council Bill

Expressing their concern over the move of Central government to replace Medical Council of India ( MCI) with the proposed National Medical Council (NMC), doctors of Indian Medical Association observed black day on Tuesday and stopped all outpatient services from 6 am to 6 pm in erstwhile Nalgonda district on Tuesday.

Nalgonda: Expressing their concern over the move of Central government to replace Medical Council of India ( MCI) with the proposed National Medical Council (NMC), doctors of Indian Medical Association observed black day on Tuesday and stopped all outpatient services from 6 am to 6 pm in erstwhile Nalgonda district on Tuesday.

In this connection, IMA Neelagiri branch doctors, under the aegis of branch president Dr Vasantha Kumari, took out a protest at IMA building in Nalgonda and demanded the Central government to scrap the proposed National Medical Council Bill.

She informed that NMC allows to nominate 80 percent of members and only 20 per cent from medical field, while MCI consists of Medical experts only. IMA members expressed that the Bill would hamper the dreams of poor students who want to study MBBS.Several doctors took part in the protest.
