Nalgonda: It is a story of how rag ca be turned into riches, literally. While most of the people get rid of waste material and keep their houses and surroundings clean, here is a woman who transforms waste material into beautiful items including thread bangles, toys and flower vases. And, her craftsmanship is fetching her a good fortune too.

Creating handicrafts was Sandeepa Reddy’s hobby. Hailing from a small nondescript town – Miryalguda – in Nalgonda district, Sandeepa’s passion has proved to be her source of livelihood. Sandeepa has been producing several decorative pieces and ornaments, much to the disbelieve of her family members and neighbours.

Slowly, Sandeepa is becoming a role model for many women who are passionate about making good use of waste material. She is now happy and content as not only her talent and creativity got due recognition, but also it is getting her name and fame, let alone a good fortune by selling those items to votaries of art and craft.

She has been using match sticks, broom sticks, soap cakes, worn out plastic glasses and old papers as her raw material to make beautifully finished products. Speaking to The Hans India, Sandeepa said her hobby in crafts and creating new items from waste right from her childhood is now helping her to earn good income and to lead a good life. She further said that she had already designed 500 varieties of thread bangles, ear rings besides a wide variety of amusing toys, flower vases and other decorative items from waste materials and had been selling them online.

Her husband Mahender Reddy’s encouragement helped her to achieve the success in the selected field, she added. Sandeepa’s husband Mahender Reddy informed that items prepared by her were getting tremendous response online. Sandeepa has been providing free training camps to local women in handicrafts to get self-sufficiency in their lives. “Sandeepa is making magnificent items using her skill from waste material and she has become a role model to several other women in the town,” said Gayathri, her neighbour.
