Kothagudem: In a fierce gun battle between CPI (Maoist) activists and the police on Saturday at CRPF outpost, two Maoists and a police constable were injured. A group of nearly 200 Maoists opened firing on police at Toggudem, under Pamedu police station limits of Chhattisgarh. The police retaliated.

Nearly 30 rounds of ammunition were exchanged by the two sides. The Gorukonda area under Charla mandal in Bhad­radri-­Kothagudem district reverberated with gun shots, sending shockwaves through tribal area. Both the sides were locked in a fierce gun battle from 10.45 am in Gorukonda 4 km away from Charla. The Maoists struck on a CRPF outpost for the 151st battalion was under construction at Toggudem. However, the police repulsed the attack successfully and chased Maoists. According to eye-witness bullets pierced into the walls of houses in Gorukonda.

SP of Bijapur M R Ahire, speaking to the media later, confirmed the encounter. He said that they had attempted to capture the outpost, which was under construction. One constable and two Maoists were injured in the attack. Assistant Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt, Bhadrachalam expressed full preparedness to face any eventuality in the light of the Maoist attack. He said the raid was conducted targeting the CRPF police outpost.
