Khammam: All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) district general secretary Vedagiri Srinivas Rao demanded the government to implement National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to new villages that were merged with Khammam and Madhira municipalities.

A meeting was held with the representatives of AIAWU under the leadership of Battula Lenin here at AIAWU district office in Khammam on Friday. Speaking at the meeting, Srinivas Rao alleged that the government was not implementing NREGS scheme in the villages merged with Khammam and Madhira Municipalities for the last three years, due to which people of those villages were facing problems in securing employment.

The government did not sanction pending dues of Rs 2 lakh to the workers for the works which were carried under NREGS scheme in Ramannapet and Kaikondaigudem villages, he pointed, demanding the government to sanction the amount immediately.

“The government must withdraw the decision of dissolving Metlu (Supervisors of NREGS) system in the State and also the decision of linking of employment works to the agriculture sector.

The government must allot nearly 200 days of work under NREGS scheme to the workers besides providing labour charges about Rs 400 per day and must implement all the welfare schemes to the eligible poor workers,” he demanded. Union representatives K Narasaiah, P Sangaiah and V Janaki Ramulu were present along with others.
