Khammam: The Union government’s aggressive response to the threat being posed by Communist Party of India-Maoist, known as Maoist party, seems to be yielding results. The Centre has chalked the counter strategy, SAMDHAN, for combating left wing extremism after Sukuma attack on security personnel exactly a year ago.

SAMDHAN stands for “smart leadership, aggressive strategy, motivation, training, actionable intelligence, dashboard-based key performance indicators and key results.

The police have been implementing the strategy in Maoist strongholds in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana State, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Karnataka, Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh.

Right from the inception of the new strategy, the Centre is continuing the crackdown on Naxalites. The anti-Naxal operation that took place on Sunday morning in Boria jungle in Bramhagad mandal of Gadchiroli district in eastern Maharashtra is biggest in more than three decades, according to police sources here.

Intelligence inputs from Maoist- affected districts are few and far between as the connectivity in the region is limited. This has set the alarm bells ringing and led to the government deploying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) monitor the Naxalite activities, the sources said.

More than 4,000 personnel are being trained every year by the Army and Greyhounds to combat left wing extremism in worst affected areas in various States. The sources have attributed the success of operation to the police officers leading from the front.
