The main objective of Atal Tinkering Lab scheme is to inculcate interest among students in science by providing all kinds of laboratory facilities and enabling the students to perform various experiments in the labs. The scheme is set to change the mindset of schoolgoing children.

“Usually most of the students in the rural areas do not opt for science subjects when they are grow up because they have very less knowledge about the science subjects and they have no aptitude for science the due to the conception that the subject is tough. To overcome this hurdle the Atal Tinkering Lab scheme is very much useful, and it will really help mould the students towards science subjects right from their childhood,” said Jaya Shanker, headmaster of Balijapally School.

According to the headmaster, by introducing lab experiments and enabling the learning process for the students by way of direct experiments on the subject it inculcates interests and they grow inquisitiveness to learn more and know more on the interesting facts taught in the class and it will ensure the students to opt for science subject when they get promoted to intermediate after their tenth class, felt Jaya Shanker.

Expressing happiness that the Balijapally School has been fortunate to have been selected for such a prestigious scheme of central government, the headmaster said under this scheme the Central government has sanctioned Rs 20 lakh as initial fund. It will sanction another Rs 40 lakh over a period of next four years.

The Central government will also equip the selected school with all necessary requisite infrastructures like full-fledged labs to conduct science practical tests. The Balijapally government high school is one of the 13 schools in the State that have been selected by the Central government.

The other school that has been selected under the scheme is from Nagarkurnool district. At present the government school in Balijapally school has 502 students. It already has facilities like assembly, Internet, electricity, science faculty and vast open area.

The school has got Rs 12 lakh as the initial instalment. The school authorities are using the sanctioned amount to set up a modern science lab and its maintenance. The school has already got equipment like robotics, 3D printer, microscope and projector. Jaya Shankar said that with the central government selecting Balijapally school, the scheme had turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the school students.
