Civil rights activists condemn arrest of Democratic Student Union leaders

Khammam: Civil Rights Committee (CRC) general secretary Narayana and Democratic Student Union (DSU) general secretary Arunank here on Thursday condemned the illegal arrest of DSU leaders Kancharla Bhadri, Ranjit and Sudheer and labelling them as Maoists.

Speaking to the media at the Press Club in Khammam on Thursday, Narayana alleged that the Chief Minister K Chandarshekar Rao was throttling democracy. The opponents to the regime were labelled as Maoists, they claimed.

The police had arrested the DSU student leaders Bhadri, Ranjith and Sudheer in Warangal and foisted false cases under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The students, they said, were fighting against the State government’s anti-student policies. The police tortured the arrested students, they said.

The Police also arrested the convenor of the Telangana Praja Swamika Vedikaandi, Bandi Durga Prasad illegally and labelled him as Maoist. After the formation of Telangana State people thought that their lives would change but they are sever repression.

They demanded that the government release the student leaders Bhadri, Ranjith and Sudheer immediately who had been arrested illegally by police. CRC leaders Venkat, Praja Kalanatya Mandali State Vice President John, Satish, Chaithanya Mahila Sangham State General Secretary Shilpa, Telangana Vidhyati Vedika State General Secretary Manchu Sandeep and the family members of Durga Prasad and Bhadri were present at the media conference.
