Disturbing rumours regarding a gang that devours human brains and kidnap children are spreading panic in Hyderabad city. However, the police are advising people not to panic.

The rumours first began from Kurnool and Kadapa districts in the neighboring Andhra Pradesh a few weeks ago which led to the residents of several villages in the districts to form groups for patrolling their respective areas.

It then spread in Mahabubnagar district in Telangana. Mahbubnagar Superintendent of Police B Anuradha even went on to launch a campaign to put the public to ease that there were no such gangs in the district.

After gradually spreading to Siddipet and Karimnagar, the rumours about the gang has now reached Hyderabad.

An advisory has been issued on Monday by the police asking people not to fall for such information circulated on social media particularly the WhatsApp groups.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat even tweeted on Monday urging people not to believe such false information clarifying that there is no truth in the information regarding such gangs.

As per the rumours, the gang is on the prowl to commit robberies after attacking residents at night by making sounds of a baby crying outside in a bid to get the family open the main door. Once they do, the gang enters the house and attack them before stealing their valuables.

However, the police assured that there have been no such gangs in the city.

The city police are making efforts to know the origin of the rumours that are being spread across the State about various gangs.

Separate IT wings at Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates are closely monitoring the messages being shared on WhatsApp groups and Facebook regarding these gangs while the police are taking necessary precautionary measures to tackle the situation.
