Bodies of three engineering students from Andhra Pradesh who drowned in Krishna river near Vijayawada on Saturday were found by the rescue workers.

The attempts are still going on to trace the fourth student, Rajkumar. The deceased were identified as Praveen, Chaitanya and Srinath. The bodies were shifted to a government hospital in Vijayawada for an autopsy.

Five students from the second year of a private engineering college went for a picnic to Pavitra Sangamam on Saturday when the incident took place. As one of them was drowning while taking a bath, three others jumped in an attempt to save him. However, due to the strong currents, all of them were washed away while the fifth student alerted the police who deployed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and divers into rescue operations.

According to the police, one of the students crossed the safety railing, which led to the tragedy.
