Give your house a makeover

Monsoon is at peak so as the gloom in the air. It is great time to give your abode a practical yet vibrant makeover. Lend a refreshing change to your home décor with vibrant colours, quirky printed fabrics and accessories to add a touch of liveliness. Your home looks dull and ugly if your interiors are dark, so it’s always advisable to make your interior look vibrant by incorporating vibrant fabrics on cushions, curtains, upholstery, etc. Monsoon calls for warm and bright colours such as ochre, coral, and shades of red or neon pastels.

Let us look at few changes we can make to upholstery, curtains and cushions to get our home monsoon ready. Curtains: It is very important to use correct fabrics in curtains as window covering plays a vital role in keeping the temperature of the living space cool and relaxing. People should go for the fabrics which allows light to come in and dries up the rains.

The monsoon fabrics should be chosen keeping in mind the sombre atmosphere and it should posses elegant floral prints inspired by nature. As the monsoon season brings great relief from excessive heat of summers creating a refreshing surrounding, it is very necessary to brighten up ones’ abode with light and soothing fabrics. For instance, sheer curtains and cotton curtains, allow the light to enter inside your home and allow you to see clearly through the curtains, resulting in uninterrupted views.

With a comforting palate of soft natural shades the fabrics should work together amazingly to create a captivating interior. The collection must comprise of mild and relaxing shades spreading phenomenal harmony and pleasant ambiance. Apart from curtains, blinds are also another very good option to enjoy the outside view. You could try blinds in laminated wood or plastic.

Make sure to avoid aluminum blinds as they tend to get corroded. Wooden blinds are also not a very good idea as they could get warped. Cushion covers: Fabrics that shrug off the rains from mist to monsoon should be included in your home. Fabrics that are vibrant and attractive in colours and which dries up easily should be there at your house.

Bed linen: The material of fabrics should be 100 per cent cotton for bed linen. Cotton is the most popular fabric used to make sheets and other bedding. It is durable, breathable, soft, easy to care for, and generally quite affordable. Apart from this the colours that you can include at your home in linen are lavender, berry, pink, canvas, blue, charcoal, and teal and other soft, plain and pleasant colours that not only give a lively touch to your house but also give soothing appeal.

Upholstery: The fabric of upholstery piece is the most noticeable sign of quality. While choosing fabrics for upholstery you should be aware of durability, and resistance to soil and fading. When shopping for fabrics, you’ll find a vast array of different patterns, textures, and abrasion factor and fiber contents to select from.

But your choice will come down to two basic fabric types: natural fabrics and man-made fabrics. Don't choose a fabric just for its colour, be sure to use something fitting for the room and atmosphere. Always remember you must love the fabric. Since you are spending time and money on your upholstered piece, make sure you find fabric that suits every season.

Lastly, you can also add mirrors to your house as mirrors create a lively effect and ambiance into your house and brings positive energy.
