The celebration of Diwali festival begins with Dhanteras, people buy gold, silver, automobile, utensils, property and other precious goods. This year we are celebrating Dhanteras today i.e. on 5th November.

What is Dhanteras

The word “Dhanteras” is made up of two words - Dhan and Teras. Dhan means wealth, and Teras means the13th day. Dhanteras falls on the 13th lunar day of the Ashwin month as per Hindu calendar.

According to the Hindu tradition, Lakshmi the goddess of wealth and Ganesha the god of knowledge are worshipped on this day. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Lakshmi came out from the ocean of milk during the churning of the Sea, which is also known as "Samundra Manthan". Kuber the god of wealth is also worshipped on this auspicious day.
