Chinta Bhaskar, an NRI, donated Rs 3 lakh for the construction of Anganwadi Centre at Kavuluru village in G Konduru mandal of Krishna district. The NRI handed over the cheque to District Collector B Lakshmikantham on Thursday in the presence of Komati Jayaram, representatives of Telugu Association of North America (TANA) at the Collector’s camp office on Thursday.

Vijayawada: Chinta Bhaskar, an NRI, donated Rs 3 lakh for the construction of Anganwadi Centre at Kavuluru village in G Konduru mandal of Krishna district. The NRI handed over the cheque to District Collector B Lakshmikantham on Thursday in the presence of Komati Jayaram, representatives of Telugu Association of North America (TANA) at the Collector’s camp office on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector praised the services of NRIs particularly giving financial assistance for setting up of digital class rooms and Anganwadi buildings in the district. He said the district administration has decided to construct buildings for 1,000 Anganwadi Centres in the district each at a cost of Rs 7 lakh.

He informed that Rs 5 lakh works would be taken up under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) and the remaining Rs 2 lakh would be donated by NRIs. He thanked the NRIs for rendering financial assistance to the district.

He said some NRIs are coming forward to develop the crematoriums in the district and thanked the latter. Komati Jayaram said NRIs are giving assistance to set up digital classes in all Zilla Parishad High Schools on the request of the state government and will increase the service activities in future.
