Demands Rohith Law and probe into the role of HRD Minister

New Delhi: Vemula Radhika, mother of Rohith Vemula, on Saturday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, a day after accusing the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani of misrepresenting facts related to her son's death. Accusing Irani of lying and attempting to divert attention from the entire issue, Radhika Vemula said that her son did not receive the stipend for seven months.

Rohith's friend Prashant quoting the HRD Minister's earlier statement said it was a complete lie that had malicious intent to divert the entire issue, which has started troubling the BJP. Prashant also wondered why no action has been initiated against the HRD Minister, who is still giving repeatedly false statements.

Radhika who is here for the last two days to put pressure on the Centre for a law and to put things in perspective told Sonia Gandhi that every word uttered by Irani was a lie. She is stated to have told her "Rohith Law" on the lines of "Nirbhaya Act” was necessary as there are “several Rohiths in this country facing similar humiliation on the
campuses.”

Later, she met the Left party leaders Sitaram Yechury, D Raja, S Sudhakar Reddy and JD (U) MP K C Tyagi, to impress upon them the need for forcing the Government to bring out the law.
