Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, continues to be under observation at a city nursing home a week after he met with a road accident.

The health condition of Abhishek showed slight improvement on Monday, but he still continued to feel uneasy and was on intermittent nebulisation support, the medical bulletin said.

MRI scans at the initial stages, confirmed Banerjee suffered an orbital fracture below the left eye apart from other minor injuries.

"Although there has been slight improvement with regard to fever, body ache, etc, Abhishek Banerjee continued to feel uneasy and had to be put on intermittent nebulisation support," the bulletin said.

Abhishek was admitted to the Belle Vue Clinic here after his car hit the crane of a van towing a snag-hit milk van at Ratanpur, about six km from Singur on the Durgapur Expressway in Hooghly about a week ago.

On the sixth day of his treatment, a repeat MRI of his affected part showed no signs of deterioration while the eye tests done by a team of specialists from Priyamvada Birla Aravind Eye Hospital gave 'satisfactory reports', the bulletin added.

The doctors of the 14-member medical board that was constituted to treat the injured MP, has suggested treatment and medication along the same line.

"Abhishek continues to be under treatment and observation on all vital parameters," Belle Vue Clinic's Chief Executive Officer P. Tondon said.

On Monday evening the medical board is set to have a final review of all the test reports.

"Hopefully, the doctors would decide on the probable date of the required surgery (based on the review)." Tondon said.
