Hyderabad: Selection committee chairman of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) MSK Prasad landed in trouble following fake facebook posts creating misunderstanding between him, the Board and the management of the Indian cricket team. In fact, cybercrooks targeted him apparently to cause embarrassment and have fun out of it.

Cybercrooks opened a facebook account in the name of Prasad and began posting his photographs with Indian players, views on the upcoming selections for the Indian team and also view on individual players as if to create an impression that those were the views of the Chairman of the selection committee.

Prasad, who was appointed Chairman of the selection committee in 2016, was unaware of the facebook posts.

He was shocked when the BCCI, management of the Indian team and also some senior cricketers raised serious objections to the posts.

Prasad felt very embarrassed at this. He quickly verified the facts and discovered that something wrong was happening behind his back.

He explained everything to the Board and the management of the Indian team to clear the misunderstanding.

The next thing he did was to approach the city police to lodge a complaint with the cyber crime wing. In his complaint, filed on December 6, Prasad informed that he used to have a facebook account but he deactivated it in 2015 when he was appointed member of senior selection committee of the BCCI.

In his complaint, Prasad also said that somebody has opened the facebook account in his name after he was elevated to the post of Chairman of the selection committee and causing trouble.

“These posts are creating acute embarrassment to me and I had to inform the Board and also the Indian team management about this to clear the misunderstanding.

If these things are not stopped at this stage, then, it would not only harm me but also Indian Cricket and I will lose my credibility,” Prasad said in his complaint.

Based on the complaint, cyber crime officials registered a case and launched investigations. Inspector B Chand Basha told The Hans India that a notice has been served on the facebook management. We will go further as soon as we receive a reply from facebook, he said.

It may be recalled that Prasad’s appointment as Chairman of the selection committee is viewed as an act done in defiance of the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee recommendations.

He was part of the previous panel as the south zone representative and replaced Sandeep Patil as Chairman.

The former wicketkeeper-batsman has played six Test matches, scored 106 runs and taken 15 catches. He has also played 17 ODIs.
