Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah and a slew of BJP top guns campaigned vigorously for the party in the North eastern state. On the other hand, the CPM charge was led by Manik Sarkar himself, who addressed some 50 rallies. On behalf of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Kailash Shahar town.

As many as 307 candidates are contesting the elections for 59 of the 60 constituencies. The election has been countermanded in one constituency where the CPM candidate died a few days ago. The CPM is constesting 57 seats leaving three for its allies, while the BJP is contesting 51 seats and its ally IPFT is contesting nine seats. The Congress is contesting 59 seats.

The state has 25 lakh voters and they will vote in 3214 polling stations.Tight security arrangements have been made across the state to ensure free and fair elections. The results would be declared on March 3.
