We heard of a saying that 'every citizen is a police officer without uniform', once again Kerala people have proven this saying right. The police officers duty is to ensure peace and order in the society, but not to bull people with their authority.

In an incident at Kerala's Thrissur district, where the people revolt against the police for not doing their duties.

The Puthukkad junction, which is known as accident prone area in Thrissur district, where at least six to seven accidents happen every day, and local police failed to take preventive measures in controlling them.

From the Facebook post of the videos, made on March 19, which clearly shows the public anger against the police.

Going into the details

As per FB video, an accident had occurred on March 19 at Puthukkad junction, and as usually police reached to the sport and started to push away the assembled crowd by screaming at them. A young man, name not yet known made a request to one of the police officers at the spot, that to place a constable at the junction in order to control the accidents.

"Who on Earth are you to ask that?" was the response. The sub-inspector then manhandled the man, tore his T-shirt, and tried to force the man into a police jeep to take him to the station. When the man resisted, another cop snatched gold ornaments -- a bracelet and a chain -- and said that he'd have to accompany them to the station to get it back.

The public, who witnessed everything that was happening, stepped up and revolted against the police saying "Yes, he's saying the truth. We saw all of it happening."

The entire incident was captured on a smartphone shows how enraged policemen were and how they argued with the citizens. This video went viral on social media with over 21,000 shares.

Janamaithri Suraksha Project is the community policing project of the Kerala Police, which was launched to facilitate closer community involvement in ensuring security and safety within communities.

However this incident should be an eye-opening to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and senior police officials should ensure those in service do not misuse the authority they have, to bully citizens.
