Kochi: An 18-year-old biker, who was allegedly racing with two other bikes, was killed after his bike rammed into a KSRTC bus on MC Road on Monday. The bus caught fire in the accident and all 44 passengers had an inexplicable escape.

The deceased has been identified as Anup Alex, a resident of Kottarakkara. Police said the bike which was rammed under the bus, was a high-end one. The accident occurred on MC Road at Maradi Palllikavala in Muvattupuzha at 3:30 pm. KSRTC officials said the bus heading towards Kottayam was fully gutted.

The bike rammed the bus and went under it. Rider was thrown off the bike in the impact of the collision. Petrol from the bike leaked which caused the fire. Sensing the smell of fire, the bus driver immediately opened the automatic pneumatic doors to facilitate the passengers out of the bus and with few minutes the bus was engulfed in flames,” said saju K T, controlling inspector.

Fire and Rescue team reached the spot and douse the flames. Local residents and police rushed Anup to Government Medical College. Police said, the bike was on the wrong side and passengers were taken to Kottayam in another bus.

Two other bikers, who were also involved in racing did not stop and are yet to be traced by police.
