BJP chalking out protests to oppose Tipu Jayanti.

BANGALORE/MADIKERI: The government’s decision to celebrate the Tipu Jayanti has been a “communal” literary composition of protests from the BJP which has been leading to tense situations in the state for the past three years.
This year it appears to be similar, despite the formation of a new government at the helm. As the Lok Sabha elections are just around the corner, the BJP is planning to step up its opposition towards the celebration.
On Wednesday in Kodagu, BJP leaders will hold a meeting to discuss the protest plans. With less than a week being left for the November 10th celebration, the BJP is rushing to mobilise its cadre.
“We have already conveyed our opposition in the strongest possible words to the state government. We will hold talks to discuss possible ways to protest.
We will do all in our power to ensure state celebrations are thwarted, but our protests will be legal and peaceful.” said Virajpet BJP MLA and senior party leader K G Bopaiah.
Party state general secretary C T Ravi said that, “If the core agenda of the coalition is to appease the Muslim population, then let them celebrate sufi saints like Shishunala Sharif. We have no objection to that.
But by trying to secure their vote bank, Congress and its alliance partners are hurting the sentiments of the Hindu majority.”
The anti-Tipu committee in Kodagu which is headed by M B Abhimanyu Kumar, a leading advocate from Somwarpet, has urged the government and the district administration to cancel the Tipu Jayanti.
He said that the celebration is against the sentiments of the people of Kodagu and the government is looking for trouble which is not needed.
The state government said it will take every possible step to ensure law and order within the state. “The BJP is trying to rake up communal sentiments by opposing Tipu Jayanti celebrations this year as well, but we will go ahead and celebrate the man who fought the British.
Noo act of violence will be tolerated. The state government will deal with those threatening law and order in the state with a firm hand.” said G Parameshwara, deputy chief minister and home minister.
On Monday the minister said he will call for a meeting of high-ranking police officers to discuss the issue in detail and plan for the precautionary measures.
