Nizamabad: Scarcity of power in the district may be a thing of the past as the State government is taking steps to establish solar power plant.

Farmers are spending sleepless nights near the bore wells in the agricultural fields waiting for the power supply to collect water from bore wells to irrigate their fields.

Even during daytime, there are frequent power outages without any fixed timings, thus, putting the farmers to immense hardships.

In order to mitigate the sufferings of the farmers by providing with uninterrupted power supply, the State government has decided to set up a solar power at an estimated cost of Rs 120 crore on an 84 acre-land on the outskirts of Vannel (K) village of Nandipet mandal in the district.

In this connection, it entered into an MoU with the Gujarat based Ujwala Teja Solar Private Limited company. It will supply an additional 20 MW of electricity. If the plant is completed the power woes of the farmers would come to end.

Construction works relating to the plant are going on at a brisk pace t complete it by December 28 this year. Around 300 workers are at work under the supervision of 25 private engineers. Power will be transmitted to several villages of Nandipet mandal. Also, power plants would be constructed at Ramampet and Renigunta in Medak districts.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, Ujwal Project and site Manager Tushar Mallik said they reached an agreement in January last year and works relating to these power plants would be completed by this month end.

He said that an agreement was reached in such a way as to supply 20 MW of power to the State government for 25 years. The power that is generated will directly reach the sub-Station in Nandipet.

Expressing his happiness over the agreement between the State government and the Ujwala Power plant, a farmer from Kudwanpur, Sambaiah hoped that the problem relating to power scarcity would end soon.
