Residents of RTC colony Nizamabad install CCTVs, bring down crime

Nizamabad: The residents of RTC colony at Yellammakunta in the city have taken a laudable step in bringing down the crime rate in their locality and they can be taken as a role model by others to emulate. They have installed Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) at important junctions by spending money amounting to Rs 85,000 from their own pockets without waiting for the government to release the necessary funds. As a result, incidents like chain snatching, pick-pocketing, lifting of vehicles and burglaries, ransacking of houses have come down. People are able to live a relatively peaceful life.

There are a total of 400 people in the RTC colony comprising 120 families. They formed a committee comprising 52 members of their locality and all of them mobilized financial resources and installed 12 CCTVs. The committee members collectively organise various cultural and religious programmes on important festivals lilke Dussera, Ganesh Chaturdhi and Deepavali.

In the early morning, yoga classes are conducted at the community hall in the city flowed by a satsang. DWCRA meetings are also held for women. Religious discourses are conducted in the evenings through loud speakers.

Speaking to The Hans India in the city on Tuesday, a resident of the colony C Ramachander, an advocate said that the crime rate has been reduced to a considerable extent after the installation of the CCTVs.

Chain snatching incidents and burglaries have not been reported as the thieves are afraid that their activities would be caught on the CCTVs, he added Secretary of the RTC colony T Mohan Reddy said that all the 120 families of the colony are completely united and they mingle together as one family sharing strong bonds.

People are happy and fit physically and mentally as they conduct yoga classes and organize religious discourses and spiritual programmes. Another resident Limba Goud said that people from other localities and towns were heaping praises on them for their laudatory step.
