The popularity of this sweet has spread not only in India but also in several other countries where it is being sold like hot cakes. After gaining popularity as Sirnapalli kova, it is being exported to other countries, thereby earning profits and also gaining good reputation for their specialty. It is prepared by one Chandraiah, a resident of Sirnapalli.

There are 6,000 people living in the Sirnapalli village and most of them depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Among these, 200 families are associated with the making of palakova. The mouth watering sweet is prepared in a very special way.

The cooks or farmers who are associated with its preparation do it with great responsibility and commitment. They allot three hours for its preparation in the morning.

Around 30 farmers make 50 to 60 kg of palakovas every day and sell 1 kg of palakovas comprising 150 pieces to the contractor and earn anywhere between Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 every day.

If they sell only milk, they earn only Rs 30 or Rs 40 per litre but if they sell 1 kg of milk kova, they earn Rs 200 to Rs 220 per kg, thereby making more profits.

Families of farmers who depend on the preparing of this tasty palakova are able to send their children to pursue higher studies.

Several families form the upper strata of the society like doctors, lawyers, businessmen buy this palakova of Sirnapalli village in large quantities and send it to their children living in the USA, Dubai and England, thereby boosting the sales. In several Gulf countries, palakova is given as gifts to friends and relatives.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Nagaraju, a maker of this palakova said that the sweet is very tasty and unadulterated. He said that they make it by using pure milk.

He said that they do not make it with a profit motive but only to supply tasty sweet to their customers. The sweet is not very expensive, he added. Chandranna, another maker said that they prepare the palakova by using cow’s or buffaloe’s milk.

He said that they were facing difficulties in getting fodder for their cattle. He urged the State government to give them loans or provide financial assistance to purchase cows which give more milk. Then, their living conditions would improve, he added.
