Addressing the gathering at a free medical and sports equipment distribution camp at Rahatnagar in Bhingal mandal in the city on Friday where he was the chief guest, he said that earlier, police used to go to villages only to catch the criminals and thieves but now, they were also taking part in the development activities in the villages.

Now, people in the rural areas consider policemen as their friends with friendly and community policing becoming popular. The Deputy Inspector-General of Police said that policemen were taking part in social welfare activities, distributing sports kits and several development activities in the district.

He said that changes were made in police administration in the rural areas and village police officer to cater to the needs of the policemen in villages and SHE-teams were appointed to attend to the needs of women in distress. He urged the people to make use of these officers.

DIG Shivashankar Reddy said that villages were bustling with several development and social welfare activities and people were living happy and peaceful lives. He urged the people to take part in sports related activities for an all round development of the personality.

The police would take up several activities to involve the youth in rural areas , he added. He urged them to take Malavath Poorna, the girl mountaineer hailing from Nizamabad district as a role model.

The DIG said that, earlier, people used to travel long distances to go to hospitals as there were no facilities in the villages but now medical camps were being held in the villages and urged the people to utilise the opportunity.

Later, the DIG distributed cricket and volleyball kits to the youth. Police Commissioner Karthikeya, Armoor ACP Shiva Kumar, NIG ACP Ravinder and others were present.
