Nizamabad: As part of the nation-wide protest called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists Association, all the medical shops remained closed in the district on Tuesday in protest against the Central government’s decision to sell all the medicines online. They were opposed to the making of the sale of medicines more stringent Later, they also took out a huge rally in all the important localities of the city and raised slogans against the Centre.

Speaking to the media here, district medical stores association president Madhusudan said that there were several lakhs of families in the State who were running medical shops to eke out their livelihood and if the government goes ahead and makes it mandatory to sell medicines online, all of them would be thrown out on the streets and starve to death. It would hit their livelihood hard, he added.

He said that it was an ill conceived move detrimental to the interests of the medical shop owners. Although they tried to seek an appointment with the Union Ministry of Health, officials and ministers for the past two years to discuss their problems, they were denied an appointment, he lamented.

Speaking on the occasion, secretary of the district medical stores association Sudhakar warned that they would intensify their agitation if the Centre failed to withdraw its decision to sell medicines online.
