Floral tributes were paid to the prominent social reformer Jyothirao Phule at a meeting held at the EPDCL Corporate office here on Tuesday.Speaking on the occasion, Director (Ope) B Seshu Kumar said that Jyothirao Phule was a great Indian reformist and led a movement against caste discrimination in India.

Visakhapatnam: Floral tributes were paid to the prominent social reformer Jyothirao Phule at a meeting held at the EPDCL Corporate office here on Tuesday.Speaking on the occasion, Director (Ope) B Seshu Kumar said that Jyothirao Phule was a great Indian reformist and led a movement against caste discrimination in India.

‘Phule had not only fought for the rights of poorer sections but also encouraged education for women. He was the first Hindu to start an orphanage for the oppressed children’, the Director added. APEPDCL BC Employees’ Welfare Association President Polaki Srinivasa Rao said that Phule had the rare honour of securing ‘Mahatma title’ who later formed Satya Sodhak Samaj to liberate suppressed low caste people. Company Executive Director B Ramesh Prasad said that Jyothirao Phule was the spirit of India who had devoted his entire life for the welfare of downtrodden.

Chief General Manager P Nageswara Rao presided over the meeting. SC, ST Employees’ Welfare Association secretary M Lakshmana Rao, Chief General Managers P V V Sathyanarayana, K S N Murty, G Sarat Kumar, O Simhadri, V Vijayalalitha and R Srinivasa Rao and staff attended. At another meeting held in 39th ward under the aegis of TDP urban district organizing secretary Sanapala Panduranga Rao at Madhavadhara on Tuesday, tributes were paid to Jyothirao Phule after garlanding his portrait.
