The best performers in ongoing free residential coaching camp in taekwondo being organised by the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) here at the Swarna Bharathi Municipal Indoor Stadium will be given admissions in Sports Schools and in Taekwondo Academies proposed to be set up by June.

The coaching camp, which began here on May 8, will last till May 29 under the supervision of District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) June Gallyot Rodrigues and SAAP coach B Chandra Mohan. In all, 60 children studying from Class VI to Intermediate are participating from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari, Prakasam and Kadapa districts.
Special Chief Secretary L V Subrahmanyam accompanied by DSDO June Gallyot and GVMC Sports Director Y Srinivasa Rao visited the coaching camp here on Friday and spoke to the SAAP coach and the candidates. He enquired about the camp and facilities being provided to the candidates. Expressing satisfaction over conduct of the camp, the CS asked the officials to chalk out an action plan to encourage those kids excelled in the camp with regard to the admissions in academies or Sports Schools to ensure better future.
When contacted, SAAP Coach Chandra Mohan told The Hans India that more percentage of participation in the Taekwondo coaching camp-under 15 for boys and girls and under-18 for boys and girls is from north Coastal Andhra candidates.
He said to qualify in the coaching camp, the candidates should fulfil norms like possessing national medals or participation, state medals or participation in the screening tests held in the respective districts.
When asked about nutritious food to be provided in the residential camp, the SAAP coach informed that raagi malt, bananas, milk, boiled eggs, breakfast, lunch and especially dinner is with non-vegetarian is being provided. All the participants will be given TA/DA at the end of the camp while necessary track suits, along with playing kits, would be given soon. It was proposed to re-establish Taekwondo Academy at Narasaraopet for boys and Gudivada for girls in June and those excel in the camp would be given admissions there or Sports Schools.
