Gadwal: A sense of excitement, bearing an aura of festivities, prevails in the cricketing fraternity here. There is a noticeable anticipation in the air what with cricketers of every hue trying to chip in with whatever they can with the fond hope that the event that is round the corner will put this town on to the State’s cricketing map.

Members and officials of TCA Jogulamba Gadwal District unit, an affiliate of The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA), are working overtime to ensure that their tryst with the sport’s destiny will be successful and set a new trend in organisational acumen.

The town is all geared up to host 'Indira Priyadarshini Memorial Invitation knockout cricket tournament’ in which 30 teams will compete, including those coming over from neighbouring States like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, according to Murari Somashekar Reddy, President of TCA Jogulamba Gadwal District unit.

To be conducted simultaneously at Somanadri Stadium Ground and SATS Stadium, the eight-day tournament will get underway on Sunday with the grand finale slated for December 24.

Organising Secretary Narasimha (DTDC) and coach Srinivas said that this will mark a prelude to the bigger extravaganza that is lined up for January to commemorate the dawn of the New Year-Telangana State premier League (TSPL)-2018, which will be conducted by TCA.

Given the significance of this curtain-raiser, and the opportunity that Gadwal has received, they were looking into every aspect to ensure that it would bring the town into focus, said Somashekar Reddy.

Thanking TCA for allotting them this event, they said that they would leave no stone unturned to live up to expectations. This will help in revving up the spirit of all young cricketers and coaches not only in the town but also in the adjoining areas, they contended.

TCA General Secretary Guruva Reddy said that it was their constant endeavour to take the sport to the interiors so that youngsters can see a ray of hope that their talent would not go unnoticed. This should be the first big step for a rewarding journey, he said.
