Hyderabad: The 2018 edition of the Monsoon Regatta, designated as a National Ranking Championship started on a grand note here on Thursday.

This is the first that the event, organized by Yacht Club of Hyderabad, has attracted a participation of 111 sailors.

With some raging winds, the championship took off with local lad Bolli Jaikiran from Shaikpet Model School winning the first race in the National fleet. 

Uma Chauhan of Bhopal performed most consistently with two second-positions and is sitting at the top of the fleet with 4 points. 

Chunnu Kumar of Bhopal clinched the second race and is placed at the second position in the table.

In the Green Fleet of beginners, Akshay Vincient of Trishna Sailing Club Bangalore finished at the top with two wins.

Results: National Fleet: 1 Uma Chauhan (MP) 4, 2 Chunnu Kumar (KA) 7, 3 Lakshmi Nookarathnam (TS) 9; Green Fleet: 1 Akshay Vincient (KA) 2, 2 Krishna Diwakar (KA) 4, 3 Akshay Kumar (MP) 7.
