Hyderabad: Taking everyone by surprise and setting off speculation of possibility of the emergence of new political formation in Telangana state, actor-turned politician Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan met Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday and congratulated the latter for commissioning of 24-hour free power supply to the farm sector in the state.

Pawan Kalyan met the Telangana state Chief Minister for the first time at his official residence Pragathi Bhavan. The Jana Sena Party leader greeted the CM on the occasion of New Year. However, Chief Minister KCR was not at his residence as he was at Raj Bhavan to greet Governor E S L Narasimhan.

Pawan Kalyan had to wait for some time in Pragathi Bhavan to meet the CM. Both the leaders spent about half an hour discussing various issues, including the 24-hour power supply being implemented in the state.

Speaking to mediapersons outside the Pragathi Bhavan, Pawan Kalyan said that he had come here to congratulate the Chief Minister wholeheartedly for his achievement of 24-hour power supply. “During the Telangana agitation, it was said that the state would be in complete darkness if it is separated. I wanted to know how the situation had changed from power cuts to 24-hour power supply. I think this should be taken as a case study by other states. It is surprising how they could make impossible as possible,” said Pawan Kalyan.

The meeting of Pawan Kalyan with the Chief Minister assumed political significance since the actor-turned-politician has decided to foray into politics and contest elections in 2019. However, he said that there was nothing political about his meeting with KCR.

The meeting of Jana Sena Party chief with CM KCR has led to discussions in the political circles on possible alliance. Several film stars have met the Chief Minister but Pawan had meeting with KCR for the first time. It is learnt that the Chief Minister had inquired about Jana Sena Party activities in Andhra Pradesh and his future plans.

Chief Minister and Pawan Kalyan did not have cordial relations in the past. The Chief Minister had mocked Pawan Kalyan during the Nandyal bypolls stating that the film star’s party won’t even get 1 per cent votes.

Pawan Kalyan skipped the prestigious World Telugu Conference even though he was invited by the government. Film stars from Tollywood had visited the event in large numbers and even his elder brother and Congress leader K Chiranjeevi also attended the event.

However, the situations changed after both leaders met during a dinner hosted by Governor Narasimhan during the visit of President of India Ram Nath Kovind. The CM reportedly asked the Jana Sena chief about the activities taken up by his party in Andhra Pradesh and also told him that he was following his party activities.

Pawan clarified that he could not attend WTC because of his busy schedule. He said that he had special respect towards a party which had fought for a cause. “I have been saying this since formation of my party. I have been saying, we should take inspiration from Telangana,” said Pawan Kalyan.
