Around 500 workers of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) belonging to the Mirzapur village besieged the MPDO office in Birkur mandal on Tuesday protesting against the government for its indifference in allotting jobs during drought. 

Birkur (Nizamabad): Around 500 workers of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) belonging to the Mirzapur village besieged the MPDO office in Birkur mandal on Tuesday protesting against the government for its indifference in allotting jobs during drought.

They squatted in front of the office and raised slogans against the government. Later, they stormed into the general body meeting of the Mandal Praja Parishad and entered into a heated arguments with the people’s representatives.

They destroyed the furniture and chairs. They told the officials that were not being paid properly for the works in Mirzapur village. They relented when the MPDO, Tahsildar and APO pacified the agitators and assured them that they would visit their village and provide jobs.
