Schools tweak norm of one class one room
At least 65 per cent of total 42,632 schools in Telangana State are functioning in six or fewer classrooms in contravention of the standard norm of “one-class one-room.” There are currently 27,294 such schools in government and private sectors, which are functioning without sufficient number of classrooms.

According to the provisional figures of Telangana Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (TSSSA) report submitted to the Unified- District Information System for Education (U-DISE), there are 175 schools across the State, which are currently running with no classrooms and 3,745 schools which accommodate students in a single classroom.
The report has pointed out that the 7,375 schools (27 per cent) out of 27,294 schools are running with just two classrooms. Similarly, there are 3,596 schools which are running with three classrooms. The remaining 12,578 schools (46 per cent) of the school are functioning in four to six classrooms.
The report has observed that Adilabad, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal districts has the highest number of schools which are functioning without sufficient number of classrooms.
The two urban districts Hyderabad and Rangareddy have around 51 per cent of schools which has less than six classrooms. Out of the total number of 8,362 schools in these two districts, as many as 4,275 schools do not have enough number of classrooms.
A senior official responded to the query by saying that an increase in number classrooms requires more monetary resources, and the government is currently exploring the ways to to increase the classrooms.
