BA ‘Maha Dharna’ was staged here on Tuesday by Jangaon district JAC activists and it has brought the flow of vehicular traffic to a grinding halt for long hours.

Thousands of people and activists of the JAC have taken part in the dharna demanding to make Jangaon district headquarters. Former TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, JAC chairman A Dasmanth Reddy, former MLA K Pratap Reddy and others joined the stir.
The protesting public and JAC leaders have squatted on the roads connecting to Warangal, Hyderabad, Suryapet and Siddipet.

As a result the vehicular traffic was disrupted for about three hours causing the vehicles stranded as long as seven to eight kilometres on all above stretch of roads. The police arrested large number of protestors including Lakshmaiah, Pratap Reddy and others.

Speaking to the media, Lakshmaiah and the JAC leaders maintained that Jangaon town qualifies to serve as district headquarters. The State government should understand the aspirations of local people and create a new district with the town as its headquarters.

Dasmanth Reddy stated that public from all the sections of the society were taking part in the protests, except TRS leaders and workers and the people were watching their actions. The government was making false statements that people from Cheriyal and other mandals were not asking for Jangaon district.

Meanwhile, the residents of Malkapur village in Station Ghanpur mandal have demanded the government to create a new mandal with the village as its headquarters. The village has a population of about 6,000 and has got all required facilities to serve as mandal headquarters.

A group of villagers have on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to District Revenue Officer K Shoba in support of the demand. The villagers were ready to provide two acres of land for the construction of government offices, a resident of the village, Amarender Bolla said.
