Luxettipet (Adilabad): With the closing of the sluice gates of Yellampalli reservoir to prevent the flooding of river water due to the incessant rains, the backwaters of the river project are flooding the Gullakota village from all sides, thereby threatening to inundate it completely.

Till now Gullakota is flooded with 14 TMC of water and if another 6 TMC water flows into the village, the village will become an isolated island cut off from the rest of the world.

It is a tragedy that even after a decade, compensation has not been paid to the families of nearly 100 evacuees of the Yellampalli project and they are facing immense hardships.

On the one hand, there is water from the Sripada Sagar dam which is gradually inundating the village and on the other, poisonous snakes and scorpions which are entering the residential houses from these waters.

People are finding it difficult to live such dangerous lives and they are also not in a position to migrate to other places. They are appealing to officials of various departments to come to their rescue by paying adequate compensation.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, one of the displaced persons Lakshmi lamented that the officials have neither taken any steps for their rehabilitation nor paid them any compensation.

Another victim Shankaravva said that they would not migrate from the place under any circumstances unless adequate compensation was paid to them.

The officials were threatening them to evacuate the place failing which they would be forcibly evicted, she lamented.

Deputy Tahsildar Ejaas said that they would have to evacuate to complete the construction of the project.
