Uma denies link

​Hyderabad: Former minister and Telangana Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leader Alimineti Uma Madhava Reddy denied charges on her links with slain gangster Nayeemuddin.

She demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao break his silence over the issue as this operation against the gangster would not have taken place without the knowledge of the latter.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, the TDP leader said she did not see Nayeem till date and it was atrocious to drag her name into Nayeem’s issue. “I demand a judicial inquiry into Nayeem’s encounter. If I am found guilty, I am ready to go to jail,” she said.

Accusing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government of acting with vengeance against her, Uma said the ruling party leaders had conspired to make baseless allegations against her to bring disrepute to her family which had a clean image among people in Nalgonda district.

She also alleged that as her late husband and former Home minister A Madhava Reddy had a clean image and the TRS leadership was trying to tarnish it.

Uma said the people were watching the conspiracies of the ruling party against her family and they would teach a fitting lesson to the present government. “Our family always served the people and worked for the development of the constituency.

Our family was never involved in real estate business, money lending and never encouraged mafia. The government is deliberately targeting my family. I had security when I was an MLA. The police can inquire the then gunmen whether I had sheltered Nayeem and provided medical treatment to him,” she said.

Her son Sandeep Reddy pointed out that the names coming to light in the wake of investigation against Nayeem were of those from the TRS. Several leaders from the TDP and the Congress joined the TRS in the presence of Minister Jagadeeshwara Reddy.
