Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS)

There are 134 schools functioning under this society for students of class V to Class XII with nearly 76714 students, with English as the medium of instruction. Seats are reserved for SCs-75%, Converted Christians-12 %, STs-6%, BCs-5% and OCs-2%. Reservation is also provided for children who are the victims of Worst Human Rights abuse and natural Calamities. TSWREIS has evolved as an institution that specifically cares for girls with about 88 institutions (66.16 %) reserved for girls.

TSWRIES has a robust infrastructure with 121 school complexes functioning in own buildings and another 13 are under construction. TSWREIS has been the pioneer in leveraging technology both, in administration and education and made rapid strides in achieving efficiency through technology. Today all 134 institutions are a part of an intranet with assured connectivity; own e-mail service and a website. The academic progress of the students and teachers is monitored online through Student Academic Monitoring System. In 2014-15, TSWREIS got 87.86% result in SSC and in Intermediate it has got 90% of results.

SC SUB-PLAN

Under SCSP, an amount of Rs.8089.24 crore (15.45%) is allocated during the year 2015-16. The budget provided is more than 6.73% as against the SCSP budget provided during 2014-15.

ST Welfare

The total ST population of the Telangana State according to 2011 census is 31.78 lakhs which constitute 9.08% of the total population of 351.93 lakhs of the State. The ST population in (4) ITDA districts is 20.47 lakhs (64.41%) and non-ITDA districts are 11.35 lakhs (35.58%) and ST Literacy is 49.51%. There are 32 Tribal groups living in the State which include 4 PvTGs (Particularly vulnerable Tribal Groups – earlier known as Primitive Tribal Group) viz., Kondareddies, Chenchus, Kolams, Thoties. The predominant tribal groups in the State are Lambada with a population of 20,44,039, Koyas – 3,81,354, Gonds – 2,97,846, Yerukalas – 1,44,128. The major focus is on Education, Economic support and land-based schemes.

Ashram Schools and Hostels

Tribal welfare department is maintaining 269 Ashram Schools with the strength of 76,686 ST students, 203 Hostels with the strength of 45,918 and 101 Post Matric Hostels with border strength of 24,616 students. The pass percentage in SSC Public Examinations held in March 2015 is 65.44%.

Gurukulam

In the State, Gurukulam run 91 institutions with the strength of 27,780 students. Nearly 79.05% of the students of TW Residential Schools passed in SSC Public Examinations held in March 2015 against the state average of 77.56%. The percentage of students of TW Residential Junior Colleges passed in Intermediate Public Examinations is 84.39%% of the State Average of 61.41%.

Post- Metric Scholarships

Residential and Non-Residential scholarships are being awarded to all eligible Post-Matric students belonging to Scheduled Tribe. An amount of Rs.132.24 crores for 1.37 lakh students were sanctioned and disbursed Online.

Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi

Under the scheme, to assist the meritorious ST students, who inclined to pursue higher education in Foreign Universities, a financial assistance of Rs.10 lakh is being provided to each of the meritorious ST students. During the year 2015-16, an amount of Rs.500 lakh is allocated and so far 24 ST students have been assisted.

Economic Support Schemes

Telangana ST Co-op Finance Corporation (TRICOR) implements various economic support schemes to benefit STs, who are below poverty line. During the year 2015-16, it is targeted to cover 8,732 beneficiaries.

Implementation of RoFR Act,2006 (Recognition of Forest Rights Act)

The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 provides recognizing and recording the rights of forest dwellers who have been residing and depending on the forest, for generations for their bonafide livelihood. The Act also reserves certain community rights and provides for rights to collect minor forest produce. Under the act 99,486 individual title deeds were distributed covering an extent of 3,31,076 acres of forest land and 761 community claims also distributed covering an extent of 5,15,073 acres of forest land.
